How to check the HCPC register
Use Check the Register on the HCPC website. Search by surname or registration number, and choose the profession. The registration number is the most reliable way to find the right person.
Record the date of your check and what the register showed.
The professions on the HCPC register
The HCPC register covers 15 professions. Check that the person is registered in the profession they will work in.
- Arts therapists, biomedical scientists and clinical scientists
- Chiropodists and podiatrists, dietitians and orthoptists
- Hearing aid dispensers and prosthetists or orthotists
- Occupational therapists, physiotherapists and radiographers
- Operating department practitioners and paramedics
- Practitioner psychologists and speech and language therapists
Keep checking after they start
HCPC registration has to be renewed on a regular cycle for each profession, and a lapsed registration means the person cannot practise in a registered role. Check the register again before each renewal date and whenever you have a concern.
What to record
Keep a dated record of each check so you can show what the register said and when.
- The person's name, register and registration number or PIN
- Registration status and any conditions, restrictions or cautions shown
- The date you checked the register and who checked it
- The renewal or revalidation date
- The date your next check is due
